Waterline
A public-interest explainer about where a city's water goes.

The brief
A civic newsroom wanted one thing done properly: the whole journey of a litre of water through a city, catchment to estuary, in a form a reader actually finishes. Not a dashboard. Not an infographic wall. A piece of writing with the evidence attached to it.
What we did
- One continuous section drawing the reader travels along — not six images swapped in and out
- Four figures drawn from a published dataset, each with its numbers as a real table
- A method page carrying the caveats, the model, and the CSV
- Reads end to end with a screen reader, and with motion switched off
Where it landed
12years of data, one file
4figures, four tables
100%of figures downloadable
The drawing carries the argument. The table underneath it is what makes the argument checkable.
